Charleston Volkswagen | 3 Easy Ways to Remember to Have Your Oil Changed
Charleston Volkswagen | As a car owner, you know that you need to have your oil changed. Even if it isn’t time to have a complete VW service done on your vehicle, it still may be time to have the oil changed. But how do you remember? With so much else going on in your life, it can be tough to hit those oil changes right on the money, time after time. Let’s look at three options you should consider keeping yourself – and your vehicle – on track.
Set an Alert
If you use a smartphone, and of course you do, you can set an alert on your phone to remind you when an oil change is about to be due. To use this method, you’ll need to know roughly how many miles you drive on a monthly basis. For example, if your vehicle needs an oil change every 7,500 miles, and you drive about 1,500 miles per month, you can set an alert for five months from now and be pretty close to on the mark.
Leave Yourself a Note
The day you have your oil changed, make a quick note with the mileage you will see on the odometer the next time an oil change is due. If your odometer currently reads 35,000 miles, and you are still on that 7,500-mile interval, you’ll make your note for 42,500 miles. Leave that note somewhere you’ll see it frequently and it will remind you to keep an eye on your mileage total.
A Monthly Check-In
This is perhaps the best idea on our list, as it will help you stay on track with regard to overall auto care and maintenance. Pick a date each month to check in on the health of your vehicle and address any issues which may have popped up. You might need to go in for VW service, you might need an oil change, or you might not need to do anything at all. Get into the habit of checking on your vehicle on this date each month and you won’t forget your oil changes moving forward.
